Heartfelt bloggings from commando librarian

Words from the compassionate commando:

If the library works in cooperation with the local elementary schools, there's a good chance that reading and comprehension scores could rise and language skills might improve as well. Though I have to think it through and discuss it with the powers that be within the library system, it's exciting to think about the potential benefits to all involved.

Two key points here: 1) if the library works in cooperation with the local elementary schools.....or flip it around so that the local elementary school teacher works with the library - whatever it takes they need to be a tag team 2) As library students I think we are full of beans about what we can accomplish but we are moving into existing structures and hierarchies and bureaucracies. We don't want to squash toes but we want to rock the boat while we're still gassed to go. How do we approach this?

Yes, it is exciting

Hey, Family Mac, thanks for the stroke. But seriously, as Library 2.0 up and coming librarians, we have more tools than ever at our disposal to get the word out, educate, entertain, bring the world to us or the world to the masses as in the case of some of the population that can't get to us, i.e, the seniors who can't get out but desperately want to stay connected with the rest of the world. With all the different technology at our fingertips, we can put the human face with the technology. Like Steve said, we show them how to e-mail, we help them to stay connected to what's important to them. If it has no meaning to them, it's not going to sell, much like the blogs that are made for no particular audience in mind-NO ONE IS GOING TO READ THEM! So let's bring our tired (hey, we actually do get out at 9:45 p.m. sometimes), poor, rich, huddled (and spread out) immigrants AND natives alike, and let's rock the WORLD! I feel a song coming on !! I'd like to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony....da,da,da,da......

dadadadad is right. How does the rest of the song go? I'll be frustrated now.

How 'bout, "I'd like to teach the world to read, in perfect harmony???"

You know, the song from the old Coca Cola commercial-right in keeping with American commercialism in FEED. I'd like to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony. I'd like to buy the world a coke and keep it company. It's the real thing-yeah, Coke, that's the way it should be.....
